This is directed chiefly to ADC, but I've cross-posted to a few
related newsgroups for good measure.
I first read Eleusis's memoirs almost eight years ago while exploring
hyperreal. Since then, I've actually had a dream or two about meeting
that guy. I was an English major in college as well, so maybe that's
why I could identify with him. At the time, I didn't know who Eleusis
was talking about when he mentioned PopEye in his narrative. I didn't
go through the archived ADC posts until much later, and only then did
I find out. As interesting as some of his rants were, he gave some
very bad advice. The following is from his comments on Eleusis-Zwit's

IF you sign your real name on these do***ents... what you have just
done,
is confessed to (in some states) intent to manufacture
When the warrant for your arrest has been processed, your bank account
audited and frozen, and any periphery storage or rented spaces you
write
rent checks to, already searched. They will come to arrest you... it
will
be 5:30 AM and probably Friday (nobody knows why friday) they WILL
have a
search warrant, but they don't need one, they have already snared you
with
the do***ent you signed, and, if necessary, the subpoenaed testimony
of the
clerk who watched you sign it and handed you the goods, you are gone,
you
are guilty, that's all they have to prove, and you did it FOR them.

Unfortunately, Eleusis took this sage "advice" when the situation came

Consent was then asked for to search my apartment, under the threat
that I would
be arrested if I said no and they would get a warrant anyway. I knew
this would happen
because of what POP-I had told me so I signed my life away. Agents
were standing
by at my apartment and busted in the door as soon as my pen hit the
paper. I was
cuffed and taken to my apartment to identify the contents as mine (a
formality) and
then I was taken to DEA Holding. Apparently seconds after I was taken
away the re****ters
arrived. My driver's license picture was on the 6:00 news. The entire
block I lived
on was evacuated. Rumors started flying and all of my friends, of
which only a very
few knew what I did, started calling each other.
To top it all off, my ulcer started giving me a real fit (the ulcer
was a byproduct
of living 2 years in intense fear of that very moment).
For all his bull****, Pops wasn't any more or less knowledgeable about
such things than Eleusis. But at least Eleusis didn't pretend to know
things he didn't actually know. The following is from a piece by a guy

Down the page a bit Elusis writes:
I later received the background do***entation on the DEA's "setup" of
the sting against
my co-conspirators and me. What was extremely interesting to note from
this was that
the DEA conducted "three trash pickups at [my parent's] residence and
1 trash pickup
at [blank]' s. "Of course they didn't find anything because I didn't
live with my
parents, but I always assumed that they would be able to tell that I
didn't live
there. Funny thing is, they were limited to investigating *where the
chemicals were
actually sent*.
Pair this statement with the statement about the warrant, and I bet
you that Eleusis
signed about 5 years of his life away (i think that's what he got)
when he signed
the consent form for them to go into his lab. If "they were limited to
investigating
*where the chemicals were actually sent*" then they couldn't have
gotten a warrant
and they would have had almost nothing to go on. If "[blank]" had kept
her mounth
shut, then she probably would have gotten a few months for whatever
they had on her
and Eleusis would have gotten off.
So there you have it. PopEye is DIRECTLY responsible for Eleusis's
downfall. I hope you're satisfied, Pops. Probably you'll never read
this. I haven't seen any posts by you in a few years now, and my guess
is that Eleusis has probably "gone establishment," as they used to
say. So I wouldn't be surprised if either of you even lurk this group
anymore. But I had to get this **** off my chest anyway. PopEye, may
you rot in hell. And Eleusis, I sincerely wish you well, wherever you
are, and don't be too pissed about my ripping off the final line of
your memoirs for my sig; I just couldn't resist.
