You know, I read something interesting the other day. The first SSRI, 
zimelidine, was synthesised to be similar in structure to 
chlorpheniramine, with similar s*****onin effects but fewer side effects. 
  The subsequent earnest search for modern antidepressants was similarly 
inspired by diphenhydramine. I never would have thought the SSRIs would 
have been the children of the anticholinergics.
