HUDSON - The agreed-upon trade last month was supposed to be simple:
steaks for crack. But the deal ended in a deadly confrontation that
left a man fatally stabbed.
The crack recipients didn't think they got what they were due, said
Pasco County Sheriff's Office spokesman Doug Tobin. "They were upset
about the amount of crack they were getting."
So just hours after they got the drugs on July 24, William Harrison
Gillespie and his brother, Gerald Thomas Gillespie, decided to
confront the people who executed the trade with their "associates,"
Tobin said.
The Gillespies, with William brandi****ng an ax handle, went to 7123
Edna Ave. Lot B just before 9:30 p.m. and whacked resident Richard
Bell over the head, according to authorities.
William Gillespie, 43, was arrested Monday on an aggravated battery
warrant in the case.
Bell, whose age wasn't clear on Tuesday, was treated at a hospital and
released, Tobin said.
Gerald Gillespie, 44, was killed in the incident. A woman at the home,
whose name hasn't been released, stabbed him repeatedly, sheriff's
officials said. He was pronounced dead shortly after at Regional
Medical Center Bayonet Point.
No arrest has been made, and prosecutors are reviewing the case, Tobin
said.
It also wasn't clear whether the woman and Bell were the ones who
traded the crack.
The amounts of crack and beef traded also weren't available Tuesday.
William Gillespie, of 8719 Padget St., Hudson, was held at Land O'
Lakes Jail Tuesday with bail set at $35,000.
